Description:

Charles Lin Tissot (American, 1904-1994) Italian Venetian Murano art glass birdcage. Dating back to circa 1959, this avian enclosure is a masterful blend of elegance and craftsmanship. It features an intricate assembly of hand-blown glass components, intertwined with Zanfirico colored ribbon columns. These art glass elements are delicately supported by brass mounts, adding to the item's overall sophistication. The front of the enclosure is accented with a hinged door, allowing for a detailed view of the interior. The cage is ornamented with thirteen exquisite opaline glass birds. At the center is a striking yellow bird, surrounded by four birds perched gracefully, while eight others are poised elegantly on the floor of the cage. Adding to this picturesque scene is a center bouquet of glass flowers, which springs from a hand-painted Florentine-style wood and metal perch swing. This creates a captivating focal point within the enclosure. Further enhancing its allure, the cage features a single glass dome and is crowned with ten glass finials. The enclosure stands on four delicate glass feet, lending it an air of grace and lightness. No apparent maker marks, therefore this piece is being sold as attributed to Tissot. Provenance; a private collection.

Dimensions: 26.75 X 33 X 20.5 in.

Condition: Good to fair vintage condition, reflecting its age with mild to moderate signs of wear and patina. Notably, it is missing four slender clear glass rods in the cage, and there are some losses at the ends of the remaining rods, although these are not apparent when the piece is assembled. Having multiple areas of previous restoration, particularly in two of the primary glass Zanfirico columns, which are situated on opposite sides. These areas have been discreetly repaired with brass mounts to mask the older restorations. Additionally, one of the crown finials has been reattached using glue. Due to the delicate nature of this item, it is highly recommended that professional handling be employed for its transport and display.
