Colt Firearms Co. (American). Three American Civil War antebellum period brass metal engraved cylinder die plates for mid 19th Century Colt revolvers, with additional manufacturer's advertising plate, presented on a red fabric display background and locking shadow box frame. The first engraved plate depicts the 1844 Battle of Walker's Creek, commemorating the first time a company of Texas Rangers armed with Colt revolvers participated in combat. The engraving, provided by Waterman Ormsby (American, 1809–1883) and based on a sketch by Capt. Samuel Hamilton Walker (1817–1847), depicts Rangers and Comanches. Stamped COLT'S PATENT MODEL U.S.M.R. W.L. ORMSBY SC, NY; measures 1 3/4 in. x 5 3/4 in. The second engraved cylinder plate depicts a scene of the victory of the Texas Navy, armed with Colt Paterson Revolvers, at the Battle of Campeche on May 16, 1843; the naval theme of the engraved cylinder of the Colt 1851 Navy revolver was Colt's gesture of appreciation. The engraving was provided by Waterman Ormsby (American, 1809–1883). Stamped COLT'S PATENT NO. ENGAGED
